I love this place! The chicken schwarma sandwich is the best I have ever had! They also make great salads with grilled chicken and their garlic sauce is great! Take out orders are ready FAST!

Not what i expected. Ordered chicken shawarma plate. Rice was not the almond slivers instead was spiced cumin. Not what i am used too since i spend quite alot of time in dearborn. Shawarma was not cut off a rotisserie cooker and not juicy. No pickles or pickled beets. Garlic sauce was not what im used too. More like ranch dressing with garlic mixed in. Fatoush and hummus was normal. Would not be back. Havent found a good place outside of dearborn yet. Guess im spoiled.

Cheap, quick, flavorful, and healthier for you than a Chipotle burrito -- what is not to like? The king falafel sandwich is really tasty, as is the chicken shwarma sandwich. Really well seasoned, good vegetables (onions are standard!), fresh pita breads, and fresh ingredients! I walked out of there with two sandwiches and paid about $7! Luckily, they take credit cards even for pathetic transactions like my own. I had low expectations for fast Middle Eastern food since my last experience with this was at La Pita on the WSU campus -- so I had low expectations despite the glowing reviews. I was pleasantly surprised! I'll be adding Falafel King as my places to eat on Woodward!

I didn't go here for years because from the outside it looks like a dump - seriously it looks like a muffler store or something. But my buddy swore by it and I finally went about 2 years ago for the first time. It is super duper good. The hummus is nice and garlicky and the pita was the right amount for the job. He got shawarma which I don't eat, but he says it is the best. Being a bit of an Arabic food connoisseur I like to think I know my stuff - and this was tasty. FYI last time I was there the seating was counters and stools. It isn't like a restaurant with a server, more like a lunch counter.

I would give the Shish Tawook like a 4.0 and overall the place like a 3.1 After the first time I had this place I would of probably gave it a 1.5. I got a Chx Shawarma sandwich it was very greasy, kinda small and had a off flavor to me? So when my dad told me he was stopping by there again to pick up some sandwiches I was like no thanks but I thought he is buying ehh I'll give it a try again! So this time switched it up and got a Shish Tawook with hummus and tabouli and we had a winner! I ordered the same sandwich again and again jackpot! I never tried the Falaffel there or anything else on the menu so I can't vouch for anything other then the Shish Tawook with hummus and tabouli its great and the Chx Shawarma sandwich isn't!

Chicken Shawarma is one of my favorite foods. I'm in search for the best chicken shawarma in Detroit Area. Since Bucharest Grill is the best and I don't really need to look further, I had to try Falaffel King's sandwich since I read some reviews on here. I have to say right off the bat that Kristin G. is 100% correct in her description of the Chicken Shawarma sandwich. It was a big size (long) sandwich. It's on the slim side. The taste however was excellent. The chicken was very moist and full of flavor. I do believe Kristin G when she says it might be marinated with crack because after half way through eating, I was already thinking about ordering another one. I'm not use to onions being in a shawarma because they usually don't have onions in most middle eastern restaurants I have been to but I didn't mind it. Just a warning for people that do not like onions! The pickles were little disappointing as it didn't have the crunch I like. The Tahnini sauce was perfect blend of garlic where it didn't over power the taste of the chicken. Overall, I loved the sandwich and I will be putting it my list of the best Shawarma in Detroit area at #2 right behind Bucharest Grill. But since I work very close to Falaffel King, I will be coming here often for lunch. Few Notes: --- It's mainly a carryout place but they do have a seating area. --- They have specials on the board. --- I ate inside but I can tell that the sandwich should not be eaten while in the car. The tahini sauce and juices from the chicken are very runny. It will drip all over the place. Take lot of napkins.

I stopped here tonight after shopping. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma dinner figuring it was quick and easy. They were about to close in 15 minutes. They already had it prepared in the takeout container, which I thought was odd. I realize that this is probably one of their most popular menu items. The takeout container had 3 separate compartments. The main compartment had the rice and chicken. Another compartment had the hummous, and the 3rd had the salad. It was just over $11. I like that it comes with hummous, whereas most places sell it separately. The salad dressing was sort of blah. Not a whole lot of flavor to it, but it was fresh. The chicken was just okay. Nothing special. It had pretty good flavor, but a little dry. Same with the rice, which was buried underneath. The hummous is pretty good, but not great. It still makes me sad that many places give you pita in a plastic bag. I miss the fresh pita at La Shish. Actually...they had the best Chicken Shawarma and I always compare. I have yet to find a better version. I'll probably go back. Hopefully we'll be moving to the area soon. I'd like to try other items on the menu and maybe get there earlier.

I'm going for a stretch, trying beef schwarma at Falaffel King. Verdict...maybe stick with falafel. When I think of schwarma, I always think of the rotating rotisserie. One of the reasons why it's so effective is that it keeps all the flavor and moisture in the meat. When it's thinly sliced and put onto a grill, say goodbye to all the juices. This is the case for their beef schwarma. The flavor with the spices were fine, but because it's thin and on the grill, it turned out pretty dry and chewy. The rice underneath wasn't bad, spiced well, but also a little dry. The salad that came with it had a typical "fattoush" dressing and it probably was the best part of the lunch. It also came with hummus which was creamy and pretty good flavor. Another disappointment, the garlic dressing. Another yelper pointed it out and they were absolutely right. It tastes like ranch dressing mixed with garlic. I usually wipe the garlic sauce clean, in this case, it's going in the trash. Don't worry, I'll recycle the container!

Not a very good service.not welcoming staff, didn't like the atmosphere. mainly it's a take away place (one or two tables). The food is ok but not perfect, when i asked for extra garlic(like a small sized dip) he said i should pay for it even-though i paid almost 40$ ! Ps: the one in west Bloomfield is much better

We came here based on positive reviews for good falafel. We arrived on Saturday night at 7:53pm intending to take out food. The hours on the door said they closed at 8pm, the open sign was on, and the door was unlocked. However, when we opened the door, the employees working immediately yelled "CLOSED, CLOSED!"when we walked in despite the fact that there were others just ordering food. Won't be returning
(1)Anjani H.
I guess I don't have an opinion on the food because we never got it and never will get it because the man who answered the phone was so rude. Yelp says they are open until 8 pm and we called at 7:30. When I said I wanted to place a carryout order the man said I had to be there in 15 minutes to pick it up. I thought that was kind of rude to tell a customer when they had to be there, but if it was going to be done in 15 minutes, great. I began to place my order and the man said oh we don't have any of that. We only have Shish Kabob now. I said forget it and hung up. My parents have owned a business in food service for years and that's not how you treat customers. If you claim to be open until a certain time, you stay open until that time and cook whatever food the customer wants until that time, even if it's 5 minutes before you close. Very very rude service, will not ever try there again!
(1)Sarah K.
Let me begin by saying that the food at Falafel King is outstanding. However, the awful customer service has forced me to give them such low ratings. Falafel King delivers to my office each Monday. I ordered my lunch this morning but was quite disappointed to find out that it had never arrived. When my receptionist called the restaurant, they said they would be unable to bring my lunch (we are only about 4 miles away). I guess I could understand if this happened once, but this is the THIRD time that this has happened to me. Why haven't I learned my lesson? I can see making a mistake, but not correcting it and leaving somebody without lunch for the day is pretty horrible customer service.
(2)Holly S.
Ordered a chicken shawarma fattoosh salad and it was just okay. The chicken was good but the dressing they give you was super small and was lacking flavor. It didn't taste anything like fattoosh dressing. It was just OK in my opinion, nothing to go crazy over
(3)Moe C.
Took my coworkers for lunch and they loved it.. The service was great and lunch was amazing lots of flavour in food and the falafel was fresh
(4)Dano R.
Love to stop in here and grab some delicious and healthy middle eastern food. Salads, sandwiches and soups are outstanding.
(4)Nick O.
Best sandwiches I've ever had. Shawarma is amazing. Place is best suited for carry out
(5)Jeni D.
This is great food with reasonable portions at an accessible price point. The falafel is the best I've ever had. The chicken shwarma is great. The garlic sauce is fabulous. Grape leaves are very good too. I suggest the Vegetarian Sample which will feed 2 people, easily, and includes: tabbouleh, hummus, falafel, grape leaves, pickled veggies and pita, all for ten bucks. This is primarily a take out joint so don't expect 4 star 'wait on you' service. They do brisk business at lunch, but the staff is kind and generous--and more importantly: the food is tasty. I've been ordering from here for 4 years now (my office is down the block) and I've never had a disappointing meal.
(5)Russ H.
Great middle eastern food. The lady who took my order was hard to understand, but she was very friendly and helpful. Got Beef Kafta and was very happy. A tad pricy, but I'm seeing that seems to be par for Middle Eastern places. The place if nice inside and clean. Mostly carry out, but I would be fine eating in here for lunch. Great Hummus.
(4)Brandi H.
Perfect suburban date night! We ordered to-go and watched the classic cars cruise along Woodward Ave. The creamiest hummus I've ever had. The most flavorful grape leaves I've ever had. The pickles are INSANE--they blew my mind. My salad was fresh; my Pellegrino soda was the perfect compliment to my meal. The service was impeccable! We were lucky enough to get a free cheese pie after chatting with the staff! Condiments were SO complex and yummy. It's obvious there is love in every bite. I intend to try everything on the menu.
(5)Michael M.
I love this place. I'm in the home improvements business and whenever I'm working in the area I always make it a point to stop in. The chicken shawarma is my go to it's delicious and filling. You can get some really good food for what you'd end up paying for a value meal at the drive through.
(5)Abbie L.
Outside of Dearborn, it often feels like you're getting imposter middle eastern food. It's probably because I'm spoiled with the best. I stumbled across Falaffel King and boy am I happy I did! This location is one of my favorite carry out spots. Their portions are huge, and their falaffel is the tasty! I usually get the falaffel dinner or the chicken schwarma dinner. Either one of these meals can be easily split between two people, or in my case I take the left overs to work the next day! The schwarma comes with rice, tons of chicken, a mini fattoush salad and of course some delicious hummus. The fallafel has a bunch of veggies in place of the rice to make those cute little falaffel sandwiches. Their garlic sauce is very tasty, but definitely not the authentic stay-away-from-me-i-have-horrible-breath garlic sauce. In Royal Oak, this is the place to carry out for middle eastern cuisine! They have a small lobby area, but it's probably best eaten at home. Service is friendly and fast. Make sure to ask for extra pita!
(4)Brian M.
Best chicken shawarma sandwich in town.
(5)Rudia L.
Ate falafel King and Queen... and it was divine. The one thing I'd say is call it in early and then pick up.
(4)Ted C.
Its OKAY..............................................Â............ Bring cash with you in this place. Unless you want to do a ten dollar minimum on your card. They get really upset about it when you order a few things. The service was eh... not so hot. I was obviously keeping the staff away from something important as they seemed irate that I was there. There's no place to sit in this joint. They got these college bar bench things that attach to the wall. You get to sit on these uncomfortable bar stools. I got that "UNwanted guest feeling"
(1)Caroline K.
The food is delicious and amazing! The gentleman named Mike is very professional and he's nice/helpful. My husband and I have gone on several occasions and every time we do go, we receive the best customer service. Last time we went in he had a baking tray out with puff pastries and feta cheese/mozzarella in the center. So good, if you happen to see them, take as many as you can :) You can never go wrong with anything on the menu. Enjoy!
(5)Aron B.
I am, indeed, quite a fan of FK. To call it "humble" would be extremely generous, as basically, it's just a hole in the wall, with a few (10?) bar-type stools at the counter for eating in if that's what you'd prefer. So, no, as a destination, it's certainly nothing fancy or beautiful at all. Gotta love the food, though. I'll be the first to admit that the chicken shwarma is a bit different than many other places, and that's just fine by me when you can do it up as well as FK does! Their garlic sauce is a lot more creamy than other places, and I really enjoy it when I'm eating the chicken shwarma...the flavors of the chicken and the spices really meld well with the sauce itself, either in lunch or sandwich form. The chicken shwarma sandwich itself is very, very different from, say, Bucharest Grill's version (another winner, but very different) in taste and texture. That's okay. It tastes great, and the fact that they use dark meat here rather than white meat is attractive to me. Still pretty inexpensive. A sandwich will run you under $5 total out the door. A lunch portion of most things is under $8, and it's *plenty* of good food. I'm also a fan of their fatoosh salad (I sub out the hummus for more fatoosh when ordering the lunch), but their bread is just pre-made, prepackaged pita bread...nothing great, but certainly not the standard that's set by most Middle Eastern places with their own bread oven or something like that. Oh! Almost forgot: their soup is a very, very good deal, too! Satisfying, tasty, and filling, it's a viable alternative to falafel, shwarma, or anything else. I've been known to have a lunch of a large soup with bread and garlic sauce, and leave smiling and full. I believe a large soup is $2.99, and a small is $1.99. Worth it! They've been around for quite a while, and I've been a customer for a number of years. I know it to be clean, friendly, busy, tasty, and inexpensive. It's not a gloriously extravagant experience...but it's plenty, plenty good!

My 200th review!!!! I have reserved this spot for a place near and dear to my heart. A place I order from AT LEAST once a week. For years I drove by this place and kind of laughed. Falaffal king? What is that place. It looks ghetto. I love when I am wrong. I don't remember what finally brought me to Falaffal king. Maybe all the positive yelp reviews? Maybe because I had just had a baby and they were close so it was easy to pick up food. I honestly don't remember...but I am so glad that I finally came to my senses and decided to try this place out. The husband and I are pretty boring when it comes to our orders. We get the same thing every time. We each get the chicken shawarma dinner or lunch (depending on how hungry we are). Your meal is chocked full of goodness. The chicken and rice is basically overflowing out of the carry out container. The hummus is nicely arranged in the corner and the Fatoush Salad is piled high. You also get a TON of pita and lots of that delicous garlic sauce. I am very picky with my middle eastern. I have eaten at a ton of places and never expected to get such great quality from this tiny place. Everything thing here is delicous. Yes...I normally get the chicken shawarma but their namesake falafal sandwich is great and very inexpensive. I am also in love with their lentil soup. It is a recent discovery and now I crave it several times a week. In fact...I have a bowl in my fridge right now calling my name. The food is cheap....tastes great....friendly guys behind the counter....and are usually very quick with our order. I love you Falaffel King...thanks for being close by and always being there when I need you :)

Stopped by here the other day and was not impressed. I got the chicken shwarma lunch. I was impressed by the amount of food you get, it's a great deal. I received a baggie full of pita bread, a small condiment sized container of garlic sauce, and a box with 3 separate compartments that had salad in 1, hummous in another, and shwarma and rice in the last. I didn't like the garlic sauce you get with it. I didn't like the flavor at all, and it lacked texture and garlic flavor. The hummous was good, which its pretty hard to mess up hummous. The salad was terrible. No flavor at all. The chicken was ok, the texture wasn't so great, and the flavor was lacking a bit. The rice had a kick of cinnamon to it which was interesting. Overall I've had much better middle eastern food, I may go back and try their falafel itself and stay away from the shwarma.

I'm going with the majority and giving this place 5 stars. I used to swear by Beruit Palace in Royal Oak, and still go there once in a while. It is however a bit expensive for what you get. When I arrived at Falaffel King, I couldn't believe the prices, and figured the food had to be mediocre at best and the portions on the small side. I LOVE BEING WRONG! I ordered the Chicken Swarma dinner for 9.95. There is easily enough food from this one plate to split with somone. The meal appears to be around a 1/2 lb of nicely seasoned chicken thighs, a generous portion of Hummus, and a generous portion of Fatoush salad. The meal also comes with pita bread and pretty decent garlic spread on the side. I'm eating right now and am really enjoying it. I can't wait to get back and try something different. I'm sure there are better places, but from a price point the food is outstanding.

I've passed this place a million times and wondered about it and when we were hemming and hawing about what to get for dinner tonight, I turned to my fellow yelpers and my search led me to Falaffel King, so I decided I'd venture up Woodward to pick up a carry out. I called them and ordered the meat grape leaves dinner, a falaffel sandwich and a side of mjadra and a side of garlic sauce. I got there just before they closed and my order was waiting. It's carry out only, and there were a few other people waiting for food. The guy behind the counter actually asked me how I was doing and was very friendly. The grape leaves dinner came with a small side of hummus, a small fattoush salad and some pickled radish (is that what the bright pink things are) and pepper rings. The falaffel sandwich was big and the falaffel tasty. The mjadra was from the fridge, so I heated it up to room temperature when I got home (how it's supposed to be served). The garlic sauce was great. The prices were definitely reasonable for the amount of food we got and the food very fresh. My only regret is that I didn't know about this place when I worked in the area, because I definitely would have lunched here.
(3)Michelle L.
Falaffel King gets 5 stars strictly because their Falafel is the best I've had since I was in Israel. Seriously, the falafel king sandwich is unbelievable. It is the only vegetarian thing that completely satisfies me without feeling like I need something more. Make sure you get everything in it. I usually order no pickles on other falafel sandwiches, but seriously everything that is in the sandwich makes it. I think it comes with tabouleh, hummous, tahini, lettuce, and pickled turnips. Seriously, I love this sandwich!! Plus its only $4 and its huge!! I can't really say anything about their other food, but it doesn't really matter. Just get the falafel. You will be happy, I promise!
(5)Eric P.
Falaffel King has quickly become one of my favorite places to grab a bite for lunch. Its the closest thing to NYC halal street meet that I've had in Michigan thus far. For $7 you can get any lunch entree which includes a meat/vegetarian item on top of rice, with a salad of greens, tomato, onion, cucumber and a simple vinaigrette, AND hummus and pita bread. The food is amazing and served in giant portions. I've only had the chicken shawarma so far but its seasoned excellently. The rice is great, the salad is great, the hummus is great. The sandwiches are good too! Great value and Good portions of really yummy food will keep me coming back to Falaffel King for a long time.
(5)Daniel B.
I love falafel and shawarma sandwiches, and this place makes them delicious, for under $5. The fries are decent, too! It's the perfect place for a quick, cheap, delicious lunch or dinner.
(5)Mark G.
I was expecting more from this place given all the high reviews. I had Chicken Shawarma. It was OK. Not enough chicken and too much rice. Rice tasted like Rice-A-Roni. Nothing special really. I'd take Aladdin's or Zankou's over this place any day. Service was great though.
(2)Omar H.
The falafel sandwich is decent but not really the best I had around here. I tried the other sandwiches in the past and wasn't to impressed either. Sometimes the people working there are not really polite and could have a real bad attitude.
(2)Gina D.
This was my very first contact with Falaffel King. I called them up Friday night because I just wanted to order a carry out some chicken kabobs and a house salad. When the guy answered the phone I thought he hung up on me, there was no "Hello" just a click. Finally someone came on the line. I told him what I wanted and he said "NO HOUSE SALAD" "We are out of house salad" I said I would call back. I don't know how a restaurant could run out of a basic like a salad?? Hmmm. I did not want to order just kabobs and nothing else. I decided to take my business to Pita Cafe.
(2)Pauly G.
Some reviews are short & sweet, just like the service and food at Falaffel King. While in the area that surrounds Royal Oak Beaumont I Yelped some spots to grab a quick bite for lunch. I came across what turned out to be a very tasty chicken Shawarma pita. The cook wasted very little time and had the pita ready to go in a matter of minutes. The folks at Falaffel King have a quick & friendly carryout system. The San Pellegrino limonata & pita made for a nice lunch, my only complaint was the pita was not nearly big enough for how good it tasted. I will have to come back to try the Falaffel for sure. 6.46 for a pita & a limonata at lunch was a very good deal.
(4)Naveen N.
They give a very large quantity of food for each carry out order. Chicken was on the dry side but the flavor was very good.
(3)Nathasja T.
The particular country im originally from in Western Europe has a large amount of immigrants from Middle Eastern countries. Which results in a great culinary diversity in major cities,. Which results in my tummy being very satisfied. Ever since moving to MI I have been on a search for comparable to what im accustomed to favorites, such as shoarma and falafel, as well as kofte dishes. Falafel King not only meets these distant memories of happy tummies past, it is also by far the best place for falafel I have come across so far! Another plus for me is that they offer San pelligrino water, an Italian sparkling water of which they offer the flavored kind (orange and lemon if i remember correctly).
(5)Yasir K.
Delicious stuff specially the falafel and shawerma !!! Hommus is out of this world ! Nice staff...but the rest. is small.
(5)Amby M.
All I have to do is just THINK the words "Falaffel King," and my salivary glands kick into overtime. I absolutely adore this place. Yes, it does look like a complete hole-in-the-wall from the outside, but there was a recent renovation to the interior that bumped up the vibe from "dump" to "appealing dive." There is VERY limited seating, but as another Yelper mentioned, don't expect to be able to scarf down the deliciousness in your car or on a park bench...you need a table to keep the juices contained and off your lap. The prices are so reasonable, they're almost obscene (especially compared with other similar restaurants). For $4.95 I get a chicken schawarma sandwich that is LITERALLY a foot long. I kid you not, my coworkers were laughing at me today when I proudly displayed my lunch. They don't skimp on anything and it is delicious, soaked with flavor from the first bite to the last. And yes, even though a foot-long schawarma sandwich sounds (and is) huge, it's so tasty that I ate the whole thing and could have probably made a dent in another! Only knocked a star off because every once in a while the chicken itself is a wee bit dry and I don't care for their fries at all (I'm a total fry snob)...but what restaurant ALWAYS gets it right? Falaffel King comes pretty darn close, though!
(4)Joe B.
While I liked their shawarma I missed some of the grilled taste that I get elsewhere but still a great shawarma especially for the money. I think I spent $4.71 on the sandwich (can I call it a sandwich) itself and it was ready in under 5 minutes easily. Once I got a hold of it, the pita was tight and thin, the marinade was nice and the veggies tart with a little sweet and sour going on from the addition of the pickles. I think I need to go back for their falaffel but the schawarma was just OK. A smile from the woman behind the counter would have been a nice touch too, I got the feeling she was having a bad day or didn't want to be bothered.
(3)Heidi S.
Love this place and these guys. They are so friendly and have such great service. The food is delicious and quick. I love the Schwarma dinner and sandwiches, mmmm. The only thing I don't "love" is the garlic sauce, it's not bad it's just different than a lot of other middle eastern places, good just different.
(4)Himmad K.
One of the best shawarma's I have ever had. When we got there, we were unsure what to get, and the worker there helped us decide, and even offered free meat pies, to try them out. Whenever I visit Michigan, this definitely is a place, I am going to visit. I really wish their was a place like this in Houston.
(5)N P.
Multiple visits here, with varying degrees of consistency. At one visit the person at the counter was a bit short with us. At another visit the portions seemed very small. We've given it a lot of chances. There was one time where we had two visits fairly close to each other and the employee recognized us. He was very, very nice and gave us huge portions. It was at our next visit a few months later when we had the employee who was a little short with us when we asked about dessert options. I love the potato kibbee and vegetarian grape leaves. We have also gotten the veggie combo for two (since it included the grape leaves and potato kibbee) and at $27 it was pricey. In that combo I thought the falafels were very dry and that most of the combo was salad (tabbouli). The grape leaves were a little bland. To be fair, the vegetarian sandwiches seem like a decent deal at $5 and the lunch entrees at $9 with hummus, soup or salad, rice or fries and bread sounds like a good deal although that depends on portions sizes. I have to try other options and review this place again in the future.
(3)Lil' D.
Best falafel I've ever had. Me and a friend of mine try as many falafel sandwiches that we can get our hands on. I've only had the Falaffel King sandwich from the sandwich list, but I've had it many times, and it's always hot and super tasty. The spinach pie is good, but pretty greasy, and the rice pudding is excellent. Bonus points, 'cause it turns out my neighbor has worked there for years. She's a nice lady, so y'all should buy your falafel here!
(5)Nessa F.
This is fantastic food for the price. They were out of hummus and offered to make more for me if I was ok waiting for them to make it from scratch! The little bread triangles are yummy. My kids like the meat ones. Catering is awesome...my go to place when my in laws are in town. One thing-catering platter for four easily feeds eight people. We always have leftovers - a good thing.
(5)Tony S.
I've been looking around for the best falafels. The best I've had so far were downtown at the Arab Festival from a place called Byblos and a small place in NYC. With a name like Falaffel King and a record of good reviews from reputable reviewers I needed to come here and I'm glad I did. I would say the falafel sandwich ranks pretty near one of the best I've had (let's say 3rd or 4th) I also tasted the chicken kabob and it was even better. The baklava they had was excellent. My girlfriend loved it and she's very picky about baklava. It had nice smokey caramelized honey and pistachio and it put a smile on our faces as we ate. That's saying a lot considering how grumpy I usually am. Pros: Great prices with (or without Entertainment coupon) The food literally perked up our mood. Cons: What? Ok, maybe a little wait, but that was them taking time to make great stuff. Comments: It has some seating but it's mostly a carryout. 4.25 Stars

They should give the first falafel sandwich away for free to hook people - like a crack dealer. I have a difficult time sitting at home around dinner time knowing that this place exists. I returned for a Chicken Shwarma sandwich. It galvanized my love of this place. Unpretentious, Inexpensive, good solid food, family run, independent. Seriously, what is not to like? And they have Sanpellegrino Limonata which happens to be my favorite soft drink. This is the only mediterranean place I really need.

Falafel King indeed! Best Falafel sandwich I have had in a while. Reasonably priced, and I had a BOGO coupon from the Entertainment book. Order at the counter, take out or eat at their bench. No waitress service, but plenty of stools if you want to eat in. My husband and I also got the grape leaves. The best grape leaves he or I ever had. No joke. They are small, but very tender and the filling is moist and delicious. We really enjoyed those. The Shawarma was disappointing for us. For one, the chicken seemed a little too dry. It also came with lettuce and tomatoes in it. We found this incredibly odd, for usually Shwarma does not have those things. No 'special pickles'. They were just normal dill pickle slices, not the whole small special pickles that are normally in Shwarma. So yes, he is the Falafel King, not the Shawarma King. Stick with the falafel and the grape leaves and you will be more than pleased.

I decided to check the place out for lunch after reading some favorable reviews by other yelpers, and all I have to say is you won't be disappointed. The food doesn't get any fresher, the service is quick, and it's delicious. Get the Falaffel King lunch, it's the bee's knees if you're famished or just get the Falaffel King wrap if you need a quick bite. I'm hooked, and will definitely be going back when I get that falaffel craving again.

You mean falaffel joker? Absolutely awful. Not a single positive thing. The only way one can rate this place high is if they don't have taste buds, or are oblivious to all other goodness out there. For three days I couldn't stop talking about how they wasted my valuable taste buds.

Once upon a time, there was a young girl in search of the best chicken shawarma in the land. She searched long and far. Until, one day, she came upon a small unsuspecting place that smelled of all things wonderful. Intrigued, she walked in the door. The menu boasted many offerings of the Middle Eastern variety: Grapeleaves, Falafel and...lo and behold...chicken shawarma! The girl, eager to fill her hunger ridden belly, orders hastily. The merchant serves up her sandwich and the girl smiles with anticipation. The smell of the sandwich alone is so intoxicating, that suddenly all else disappears. The battle of shawarma has begun. The girl tries her best to eat slowly and properly, but the shawarma takes hold of her. She begins to devour the shawarma like an untamed beast. She tells herself, "This is a battle of the mind, the shawarma will not win! I will only eat half! Only half!" She regains composure, wraps up the shawarma sandwich and is on her way. The girl felt triumphant. She was almost half way home and still has not given in to the shawarma. Just when the girl thinks she has won, the shawarma strikes again. Wonderful smells fill the car. The smell is too much to bear, the girl cannot resist...the shawarma jumps into the girl's belly, sensing her weakness. The shawarma is victorious! Alas, the girl has been conquered. Forget Falafel- Shawarma is KING!!! In all seriousness... For $5.70 I got a massive Chicken Shawarma sandwich and a soda. And this wasn't just ANY shawarma, no sireee! The chicken: tender, so subtly marinated. perhaps, with crack. The toppings: they give you pickles, sliced thin and just enough for that great sour punch of dill. Sliced onion and tomatoes are swimming about in the delicious tahini sauce for a perfect compliment of flavors. Not too soggy with tomato, not too garlicy with tahini, not overly onion laden or lacking great pickle crunch...JUST RIGHT. The shawarma balance has been perfected. Long live the KING!!!

for some reason i thought the falaffel king closed about a year ago and i was really sad. apparently i'm just crazy. i don't like shwarma anywhere else. i like other falaffels, but none better. the shwarma is warm and moist (too many dry ones out there) with perfect seasoning that isn't bland and made for white people. the garlic sauce makes me swoon and the pickles are fresh. they make almost as good hummus as i do at home, so i obviously like it. my mom likes this place and she is the queen of shwarma and fatoush. did i mention that they're fast and pretty cheap and the pita is as long as my forearm? love, juston

Falaffal King is my favorite spot for delicious middleeastern food! The selection is varied, but not overwhelming. I absolutely love the lentil soup, mjardra, falafal salad (which is HUGE), and mini spinach pies. The food is made fresh. The prices are right. A bowl of lentil soup is under $2.00 -- unheard of deliciousness!! The hours are limited (they close at 8pm and aren't open on Sundays) , and the ambiance is minimal, but that's shouldn't detract from the food! Also, Falaffal King just opened up a second, full scale, restaurant on the south-west side of Orchard Lake Road and Maple, which boasts a similar menu, but in a nicer restaurant setting.
(5)Erin N.
Thanks, Yelpers. Best falafel I've ever had!
(5)Mara S.
Dear Falafel King, you made my day today. Here's how. A) You exist B) Your falafel tastes pretty darn yum-o (so good, in fact, that I'm willing to use "yum-o" in a sentence) C) You're fairly inexpensive which is great for a girl on a serious budget D) I could have ordered almost everything on the menu and want to go back very soon E) Your service was phenomenal F) Your restaurant was clean and well maintained G) Your french fries had just the right amount of crisp, just the way I like them H) You're not a chain I) The service (it deserves 2 spots) What I would like to have seen... thicker pita... but I'm no falafel king, so I'll let you be the judge of that one. I love this place. I think I'll go back for lunch tomorrow - the fattoush salad was calling my name. I'm actually just sad that I only just discovered Falafel King -- I'm on a project in Michigan that ends in 2 weeks but I'm sure that I'll be making a few stops here before I'm done.
(5)Cindy W.
Introduced last week by a friend...yeah, like you all, drove past it thinking it looked like a dump... Pros: Friendly service, huge portions, yummy food, reasonably priced! Gotta love it. Went in for the second time in a week...they were accommodating to changing out the rice on the shawarma dinner for hummous or salad...which are both wonderful - I LOVE a place that lets you substitute without giving you a hard time :) My picky picky picky toddler loved the chicken:) Two cons: the chicken is mostly dark meat (wish it was white meat) and the garlic sauce does taste like ranch :(
(4)Kelli A.
If you love this joint, hey, more power to ya. They've been in biz for many years, so who am I to tell you otherwise? But... ...this was overall, the worst Lebanese food I've eaten. My dinner companion stated: "Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining garlic paste." Without a doubt the WORST garlic sauce. Did they run out of the good stuff and sub creamy Italian dressing??? Wow. Really, really bad. The Good: *Salad greens were fresh and chopped nicely. *Mint in the fattoush, definitely a star for that! The Bad: *Hummus from a can? Sure tasted it! Awful! *They ran out of beef and lamb. Huh? *Skimpiest portion of pita bread EVER! Not that we needed it for anything, the hummus was practically inedible. Please don't insult me by trying to hide your horrific hummus under a layer of cheap vegetable oil and sprinkling it with paprika. The Ugly: *Why is there a hole in the falafel? Very disturbing. Why is it tasteless and so hard? Crunchy is one thing....stale and overcooked is another. You'll reside in my mind forever as Fal-AWFUL King. Boo!!
(2)jason s.
Get some falaffel! Or a shawrma sandwich! So good and for 6.95 you just ate the yummiest middle eastern food ever!!! I've been 3 times and never disappointed. The lunch combo comes w a tasty salad w amazing dressing and hummus. The shawrma is topped on a bed of rice. Definately a must go to lunch spot!

Have been wanting to try this place for months and got my chance yesterday. Very small inside with a few counter seats, so I would never dine in, my high counter sitting days are over, lol. You walk in and you are greeted by the Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger, Cheeseburger guy from Saturday Night Live. I'm loving this place already! "What do you want?" Puzzled look on my face. "The menu is right there!" Alrighty, thanks, Mr. Cheeseburger. After a quick glance, I ordered the potato kibbee (you must try anything that Janelle W. recommends if you are a true Detroit Yelper.) I also ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich, an order of grape leaves and a container of spicy hummus. I paid and then asked to use the restroom. They really do not have a public restroom, it's way in the back and you have to walk through their kitchen to get there. It was really nice of him to let me use it and he yelled to everyone in the back to "Clear the way for the lady!" Too funny. While in the restroom, there was even more yelling going on. This is a true blue dysfunctional family running this joint, which only makes me love the place even more. Got home and dove into the potato kibbee first. It was good, very different and I'm probably more neutral on this dish than anything else. I didn't love it or hate it. It had chickpeas in it, so that alone makes me a fan. The Chicken Shawarma...YUM! And I think the pickle gives it that "White Castle" feeling. Which is a good thing in my book. I loves me some white castles. But a chicken shawarma has to be 1,000 times more healthy than a white castle burger, so hooray, 10 stars for that! Next, a quick bite of a grape leave. They are so tiny, lol. But very good. Not the best I've had, but not the worse either. I have no room to ever critique a grape leave anyhow, as I could never make one in my life. It's really an art to be able to roll those things up! Then on to the SPICY Hummus. Whooooo!!! Party in my mouth! They are not kidding when they call it spicy!!! But then again, I didn't mix it up for the first few bites. Then I realized that I should probably mix the hot top with the hummus bottom. Then it was still spicy, but a little more toned down. Loved it! I will definitely pop in here whenever I am in the area. Hopefully just in time for family feud time again ;)
(4)Haroun K.
The king falafel sandwich was good, and the falafel was much better than most places you'll find (or at least, that I've found). Yossi's falafel is still much better, but this place is closer to me, and the sandwiches are cheap, as they should be. I haven't had anything else off the menu, but this is definitely my new falafel joint.
(5)Stacy B.
Definitely one of the best bangs for your buck. I highly recommend trying them out if you haven't already. Foods great, quick service, all around great place.
(5)Ben O.
Great great food. Best Kafta kabob I've ever had. Don't ever change it. Thank you for not drenching things in hummus and calling it middle eastern. I could fill a cup of the garlic sauce and drink it through a straw all day. Love it.
(5)Matthew M.
Easily my favorite place to get middle eastern food for a reasonable price. The chicken shawarma dinner tastes great, fills you up, and doesn't empty your wallet. I haven't had the chance to try other items on the menu because I'm always happy with the shawarma Quick service and high quality food make this a great place to crave your hunger needs.
(4)Shelli G.
I ran in based on yelp referrals and I was not disappointed. I had 4 adults over for lunch and I ordered the lunch for TWO and still had left overs! It was huge and delish! I paid 25.00! pizza night is out and Falaffel King is in!
(4)Samir N.
Simple Arabic food at a good price within walking of home. What's not to love? I just wish they would stay open past 8pm.
(4)Vy A.
I found this place on yelp and was eager to try it after all the nice reviews. It's not bad and I wouldn't mind going back some time. It didn't live up to my expectations though. I found that the falafel was just okay. It was a bit dry and on the overcooked side. I've definitely had much better falafels. The food was also on the saltier side. The prices are very reasonable. Three stars...not mind blowing, but I'd come back.
(3)Pam S.
Had their Chicken Kabob dinner - always good, tasty, consistent. Good food; decent prices, good service. I use the Entertainment Book coupon for 5$ off.
(4)Mike L.
While Middle-Eastern food in Detroit is great as a whole, Falaffel King is the best takeout option available. I have never had an issue with food quality, the portions are enormous, and the service quicker than any place around. If you live close, and you need Middle-Eastern take-out, this is the place!
(5)Sonny R.
ok, i'm not an expert in middle eastern cuisine, or maybe i've been living in a cave (nowhere near pakistan/afghanistan) but i really enjoyed the food here. it's not a romantic place to take a date or anything, unless you've been living in a cave, in that case grab the bitch by her hair and drag her there. all i know is that if i were to ever get stoned to death, my last meal would probably consist of falafel king's falafel. and if i were to ever get STONED to death, i'd probably dip it in chocolate.
(5)Curtis E.
Great lunch at a great price. I'm always impressed by the food here. That's really all there is to it. The falafel and the shawarma are excellent choices. The staff is super friendly and the place is always clean. They have a little bar that you can sit at and eat the tasty wraps at or just grab it and go. I guess the only down side would be that sometimes there are too many people there to find a spot to dine. I guess that's a good sign. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
(4)Kelly F.
Three stars is "a-ok" and so is Falaffel King. If I were judging it solely on the basis of their chicken shawarma sandwich - they'd get all five. That sammie is tasty. It's worth a quick trip for take out. The babaghanoush was average and the tabbouli was pretty good. I like mine a little more lemony, but it was very fresh. The spinach pie... Not good. I didn't like it at all. It was also problematic in that there were two meat pies in the order which I did not order and no pita bread would have been included had I not noticed the omission during the packing of the bag. I know if I had gotten home and found no pita bread I would have been annoyed. I also had originally tried to order the beef shawarma, but they were out. Disappointing. I don't think I'd drive out of my way for this one, but if I were in the area and had a craving for a Chicken Shawarma Sandwich - I'd stop in.
(3)Danielle A.
Falaffel King has seriously the greatest falafel I have ever had outside the middle east (and my parent's kitchen). I have a total bias when it comes to falafel and generally will not eat it because i know what good falafel tastes like--and I know that it is hard to find. Falaffel King has the MOST AMAZING falafel. hands down. period. Go there, you will not be disappointed. It is also very well priced and has coupons in the entertainment book. Woohoo!
(5)Joe B.
(3)Pauly G.
(3)Holly S.
(5)Erin N.
Thanks, Yelpers. Best falafel I've ever had!
(4)Aron B.
(4)Randy G.
(2)Mrs. And Mr. G.
(2)Ted C.
Enjoy!

(4)Stephan K.
(2)Nathasja T.
Nice staff...but the rest. is small.
(5)Omar H.
(2)Amby M.

4.25 Stars

(3)Brandon U.
(4)Heidi S.
(5)Michelle L.
(2)juston m.
for some reason i thought the falaffel king closed about a year ago and i was really sad. apparently i'm just crazy. i don't like shwarma anywhere else. i like other falaffels, but none better. the shwarma is warm and moist (too many dry ones out there) with perfect seasoning that isn't bland and made for white people. the garlic sauce makes me swoon and the pickles are fresh. they make almost as good hummus as i do at home, so i obviously like it. my mom likes this place and she is the queen of shwarma and fatoush. did i mention that they're fast and pretty cheap and the pita is as long as my forearm? love, juston

(3)Cindy W.

Woohoo!
